The lifeboat davit load testing inspection and certification procedure includes the examination of the davit arms, base, sheaves, winch system, wire ropes, release hook inspection, thorough inspection, and load rating verification. Ship classification guidelines, codes, and requirements for lifeboat rescue davit load tests or five-year lifeboat davit inspections are as follows:
- SOLAS Chapter III: Lifesaving devices, operational preparedness, upkeep, testing, and launch and recovery plan inspection.
- IMO LSA Code: Describes the structural assessment of launching equipment and davits.
- IMO MSC.1/Circ 1206. Rev.01: Guidelines for lifeboats, rescue boat, and launching equipment overhaul, repair, and thorough inspection.
- DNV-CG-0154/DNV-RU-SHIP Pt.6 Ch.8 Sec.5 covers the five-year load testing and certification of lifeboat davits and other marine equipment.
- Regulations for the ABS Ship Survey: Every five years, proof load testing and certification are required for lifeboat davits and other marine equipment, as well as major maintenance or repairs.
- Lloyd's Register (LR): Lifeboat rescue davits and marine equipment are certified every five years by Lloyd's authorized supplier, which is in line to EIWAA.
- Class NK: Ship classification survey requirements for certification and proof load testing of work equipment and lifting appliances.
- Bureau Veritas (BV) pt C, Ch. 3 Sec. 6: BV requirements for the IMO LSA code-compliant load testing examination and specifications for a five-year term or after repair.
- As part of the RINA Class Rules, load testing inspections and rules based on SOLAS and LSA are mandatory every five years.
5 YEARLY INSPECTIONS OF LIFEBOAT DAVIT IN QATAR
The double-arm davit of the lifeboat rescue davit winch may undergo five years of load testing by our class-certified marine surveyors using calibrated water bags, load cells, pressure manifolds, pumps, hoses, safe rigging equipment, and wireless communication systems. Testing for Loads Inspection and certification extends to the range of davit arms, davit pivot points, wire ropes, limit switches, hydraulic or electric winch brake holding, cradles and shock absorbers, emergency systems, and release mechanisms.
The release mechanism examination may cover the onload/offload hook test if applicable. Every five years, lifeboat davits undergo inspections to ensure they are structurally sound and adhere to operational safety standards.
