EIWAA Marine Services Completes 200-Ton Offshore Crane Load Testing in Luanda Anchorage, Angola
Our Lifting Inspection division recently concluded a major 200-ton offshore pedestal crane proof load testing for a prominent shipping company operating in Angola. The assignment was executed with precision by our qualified lifting engineers at Luanda Anchorage, ensuring strict adherence to quality and safety standards throughout the process.
EIWAA Marine Services is recognized and approved by leading IACS classification societies including IRS, LR, BV, and ABS, and is accredited for inspection services at key Angolan ports.
Project Overview
Scope: Load Testing of Offshore Pedestal Crane
Location: Luanda Anchorage, Angola
Safe Working Load (SWL): 200 tons
Efficient Offshore Crane Testing Using Water-Filled Load Bags
EIWAA Marine Services utilizes water weight load testing bags as a modern and effective alternative to traditional solid weights for offshore crane testing. These water-filled bags allow for gradual and controlled application of load, significantly enhancing safety during testing procedures.
This method is ideal for load certification of newly installed cranes or after significant repair works such as wire rope replacement. It is also suitable for beam load tests, derrick load certification, and lifeboat davit testing.
Why Choose Water Weights for Proof Load Testing?
Unlike rigid weights, water weight bags are safer, more adaptable, and logistically efficient. They can be filled on-site, transported easily in compact form, and emptied remotely — eliminating unnecessary handling risks in case of equipment malfunction.
These testing bags offer several advantages:
Precision Load Application: Allows progressive load application to detect structural issues before reaching critical weight.
Enhanced Safety: Load can be released remotely in emergency situations.
Cost-Effective Logistics: Lightweight during transport, reducing shipping and setup costs.
Reusable: One set of bags can be used for multiple tests, optimizing time and resources.
Specifications of Load Bags Used
For this project, we deployed a combination of water load bags with capacities ranging from 1 ton to 110 tons. Multiple bags were rigged in tandem to simulate the required load without the need for additional spreader beams.
