LIFEBOAT RESCUE DAVIT LOAD TESTING
EIWAA is one of the maritime service providers for the 3rd party inspection and certification of lifeboat and rescue davit winches by onboard testing and complies with the requirements of ship classification rules of BV, DNV, ABS, and Lloyd’s Register. For this critical lifesaving appliances inspection at ships, vessels, and offshore rigs, we conduct periodic, annual, and 5-yearly load testing services to verify structural integrity and possible mechanical failures. Our IMO-compliant 3rd party inspectors perform rescue boat davit inspection, lifeboat davit load testing, lifesaving appliance inspection, and lifeboat winch testing as per IMO MSC.402 and SOLAS Regulations.
Lifeboat davit load testing inspection and certification includes davit arms, foundation, sheaves, winch system, wire ropes, release hook inspection, thorough inspection, and load rating verification. Ship classification rules, codes, and standards of 5 yearly inspections of lifeboat davit or lifeboat rescue davit load testing are as follows:
- SOLAS Chapter III: Operational readiness, maintenance, inspection, and testing of launching and recovery arrangements, lifesaving appliances, and arrangements.
- IMO LSA Code: Specifies davits, launching appliances, and their structural assessment.
- IMO MSC.1/Circ 1206. Rev.01: Specifies repair, maintenance, thorough examination, and overhauling of rescue boat, lifeboat, and launching appliances.
- DNV-CG-0154 / DNV-RU-SHIP Pt.6 Ch.8 Sec.5: 5-yearly load testing and certification of lifeboat davit and other marine equipment.
- ABS Rules for Ship Survey: Proof load testing and certification of lifeboat davit and other marine equipment every 5 years or major repair/overhaul.
- Lloyd’s Register (LR): Lloyd’s approved service provider (like EIWAA) for certifying marine equipment and lifeboat rescue davits every 5 years or major repair/overhaul.
- Class NK: Ship classification survey rules for proof load testing and certification of lifting appliances and work equipment.
- BV (Bureau Veritas) pt C, Ch.3 Sec.6: BV rules for the load testing inspection and requirements aligned with IMO LSA code for 5 years or after repair.
- RINA Class rules Pt.: Load testing inspection and requirements based on SOLAS and LSA for every 5 years.
5 YEARLY INSPECTIONS OF LIFEBOAT DAVIT
5-year load testing of the double-arm davit of the lifeboat rescue davit winch can be performed by our class-certified marine surveyors using calibrated water bags, load cells, pressure manifolds, pumps, hoses, safe rigging equipment, and wireless communication systems. Load Testing Inspection and certification covers the scope of davit arms, davit pivot points, hydraulic or electric winch brake holding, wire ropes, limit switches, cradles and shock absorbers, emergency systems, and release mechanisms. Inspection of the release mechanism may cover the onload/offload hook test if applicable. 5-year inspections of lifeboat davits ensure the structural integrity and operational safety requirements.
